Hi there. I’m Megan (that’s me on the right). This business is brand new, but baked goods have been an integral part of my life since before I was born.

OUR STORY

My Opa apprenticed as a baker in a small town in Bavaria when he was a teenager. After the war, he met my Oma and they emigrated to the States in 1950.

He worked at Lake Forest Bakery before opening a bakery on Cherokee Street, a central shopping district at the time.

Growing up, my family always called me Little Oma for the way I took after my grandmother - I knit like her, made family meals like her, enjoyed the same (very German) foods that she did.

I wasn't thinking of Opa when I signed up for pastry classes; I just wanted to learn the science to create the kinds of things I wanted to eat. He retired from baking when I was little, and after that, Oma (and later, I) did the baking - cakes for lunches with friends or an afternoon spent "futzing around" making black and white Christmas cookies.

("Opa never would have futzed around like this," she said every year.)

For our family, no meal is complete until you’ve had coffee and dessert - and it’s important to me that the dessert is as good as it can possibly be.
